Policy for Verifying Residency of Potential
and Reciprocal Patrons

The Doyle Public Library is a district library that is a tax-supported public library.  This means that people residing within the jurisdictional boundaries of the Doyle Public Library District pay taxes to support the library.  Those who live within the Doyle Public Library District pay no additional fee for their first library card.  There is a fee of $5.00 to replace damaged, destroyed, lost, or stolen cards.  Our new cards contain patron barcodes.

Adults wishing to register for a borrower’s card or replace a lost, stolen, damaged, or destroyed borrower’s card at the Doyle Public Library must bring with them two forms of identification, at least one of which bears their name and address, such as a driver’s license. These forms of identification include, but are not limited to, driver’s license, utility bills, official mail, or voter’s registration card. The borrower’s card will be available for pick-up at the library within three working days of completing the registration.

A card holder may take the card to another library to borrow materials.  Those materials are the responsibility of the individual who borrows them, and are subject to all the fines, rules, and regulations of the lending library.

Check-Out Periods and Fines

Doyle Public Library has a policy of two-week check-out.  The book can be renewed in person or by telephone (217-229-4471).  The fine for an overdue item is $.10 per day.  Damaged and lost books are charged at the replacement cost of the book or DVD/CD.

If our library doesn't have the book you are seeking, you can simply ask our library staff to borrow the book from another library in the Illinois Heartland Library System or use your library card barcode number to request a book from a SHARE member library through our website.  When the book arrives at Doyle Public Library, the person who requested the book is notified.  These books are also checked-out for two weeks.

If a book belonging to Doyle Public Library is lost or damaged, the person who borrowed the book pays the replacement cost.

Options for Those Reading
Outside Doyle Public Library District

Individuals residing beyond the jurisdictional boundaries of the Doyle Public Library and not within the boundaries of another public library, and owning no property within the jurisdictional boundaries of the Doyle Public Library, may purchase a non-resident fee card for the price of $51.50. This fee entitles the entire family to use the Doyle Public Library, but not neighboring libraries.

If you reside beyond the jurisdictional boundaries of the Doyle Public Library, but own property within the jurisdictional boundaries of the Doyle Public Library, upon presentation of a tax bill bearing your name, you may have one library card for the exclusive use of the individual whose name appears on its face without additional payment as is the case with people who reside within the jurisdictional boundaries of the Doyle Public Library.

Individuals presenting a valid card from another public library in Illinois may borrow materials from the Doyle Public Library. The card must have the name of the individual presenting it, and an expiration date in the future. The card must be either a resident borrower’s card or a system borrower’s card to be valid for reciprocal borrowing.
